Tao Kurihara designed under the Comme des Garcons family, mentored by Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe. Kurihara first worked under Junya watanabe before becoming head designer of Tricot Comme des Garcons. In 2005 Kurihara was given her own line, TAO, this only lasted until 2011. Kurihara was known for upcycling wedding dresses, even creating clothing entirely out of paper.
